Gym Memberships!

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: May 22, 2009

Hey Team! Okay we are joining the gym! The membership fee is $37 for a one year contract at Meadows Wellness Center. Daylilygrl (Kelley) has already joined. My mom, graciemaes, and I (wisdome30474) will be joining this upcoming week.  Maybe we can all meet up at least twice a month at the gym to encourage eachother. My workout schedule will be scattered until we get through all-star season and then I will be on a regular schedule.

Let me know what you think.  Leave a message so that the team will know what everyone is doing. Several of us live in Toombs County and we can meet pretty regular.  The ones that live out of town, I encourage to come up with a plan also. It’s time to get serious. I watched the season of Biggest Loser and I am very motivated now! Let’s ROLL!

Miracle on Good Friday

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: April 11, 2009

Thursday night, we decided to take a trip to Savannah to spend the night and day with family.  Things were great and we stayed up extremely late getting caught up on the family & ministry events that we had missed.  We took almost all of the children.  There was Troy, Me, 4 of our daughters and 1 son.

We got up bright & early on Good Friday, April 10, to prepare for a planned day of fun on Riverstreet and at the mall.  As we were getting dressed, our youngest daughter began to call for Troy.  When he went in the living room, he found our 3 year old nephew with a gun.  Our 10 year old daughter took the gun and gave it to Troy.  The 3 year old began to demand his “toy” back.  Troy was inspecting the little gun (25 daringer?) not realizing that the kids had already cocked it.  As he inspected this gun with no safety gaurd, it went off and shot him through his left hand.

Meanwhile I was in the shower.  I heard this loud noise and froze in place.  I was waiting to see if it was a balloon of if someone had broken something (I had never heard a gun go off in the house before).  Instead I heard screaming and an army of footsteps running.  It sounded like chaos.  I stuck my head out to see what was going on and that is when I realized that my husband had been shot.  There was a trail of blood on the floor and everyone was screaming and crying.  For some reason, I didn’t panick.  I got Troy dressed, gave a couple of assignments and headed to the hospital.

It didn’t immediately set in that my husband had been shot and that it might affect his work or that he might have to have surgery or that it could cause permanent damage.  ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS PRAY.  I audibly prayed all the way to the hospital.  All I could think of was the word of God and how God had promised us some things that have not been fulfilled.  All I could think about was, “God give us the peace that surpasses all understanding”, “we shall live and not die to declare the works of the Lord”.  All I could think about was “God, I thank you that no child was injured”.  All I could think about was, “Lord, please don’t let the children be traumatized.”

We finally made it to the hospital after what seemed like an eternity.  Then they separated my husband and I.  I was confused at first as to why they wouldn’t let me go to the back.  I tried to stay calm and continue to pray, but I began to get anxious.  Then suddenly it hit me, they didn’t let me go to the back because they needed to make sure that I didn’t shoot him.  They needed to get the story first.  So I jumped up and ran to the counter and began to tell the lady that I didn’t shoot my husband that it was an accident.  That we were on vacation at someone else’s house.  She kept telling me to stay calm and sit down and that they will come and get me shortly.   I promise “shortly” seemed like forever.

After a little while, I was allowed to go to the back and just like on the tv shows, Troy was sitting on a gurny in the hallway.  By the way, they completely treated him on that gurny in the hall.  He was in good spirits.  He was laughing and joking like usual with no pain meds.  Doctors and nurses that passed by and saw all that blood on the towel would ask him what happened and he would show them the wound in “the palm of his hand’ and tell them the story.  Then he would begin to say how God gets the glory because no child got hurt.  Sitting in the hospital encouraging everyone that would listen.  The police were called and had to do an investigation.  What I found interesting is that each officer and a couple of the doctors asked him, “What type of work do you do?”.  It was at that moment that I realized that he may lose some function in his hand, but I kept praying and Troy kept encouraging.

Now somewhere in all of this, I called our pastor and my prayer partner so I knew prayer was going up to the Father.

After his x-rays the doctor came and said, “My friend you are very lucky.”  Troy immediately spoke up and said, “Doc, can I say BLESSED.  I am very blessed”.  After these two sentences came the results.  The bullet went into your hand and traveled to your wrist and came out without hitting any bones or major nerves or arteries. PRAISE GOD!  Troy is able to move all of his fingers.  He is able to move his wrist.  On a scale of 1 to 10, his pain never got over a 5.

After we left the hospital, he only took tylenol so that he could make it to our “Blood Covenant” service on Good Friday night.  He stood before our congregation and shared with them the events of the day.  He encouraged the people not to let anything stop them from praising God; not even a bullet wound!  He magnified God like I have never seen before.

I had been strong all day, but it was during the song, “Thank You Lord” that I was able to release all of my emotions that had built up all day long.  I have so much to thank God for.  It wasn’t until that moment that a flood of emotions came out of me when I replayed the day in my mind:  the 3 year old found granddaddy’s gun and was playing with it.  My 10 year old daughter took it from him and called daddy to come and get the gun.  My husband went and got the gun and ended up shot in the hand.  The injury did not cause any major damage and all they did at the hospital was clean it with peroxide, put neosporin on it, bandage it up and send us home!  THANK YOU LORD! THANK YOU LORD!  So many things could have been different and could have been deadly, but Thank you Lord that you saw fit to intervene.

By the way, they do not close up bullet wounds (who knew?) so Troy has a hole in the palm of his hand on Good Friday.

encourage each other

Hey everyone. Just got our first comment with some info on it. Check out the blog post at http://carmelawillliams.wordpress.com. I have read some great advice on Daylilygrl29′s personal page, but i am encouraging you all to post those items in our blog so that the other ladies to get the info. Daylilygrl29 has lost a lot of weight over the last years and has some great advice to offer the group. I’m sure some of you also have some good ideas. Please check the blog for updates.

MEANWHILE….we had our first official practice as softball coaches. We are coaching a team of 15 girls (10 year olds). I walked that outfield for over an hour giving the girls instructions. it was fun and exciting. I am really excited to see how being mobile will contribute to the overall weigth loss. It was so fun that I didn’t realize that I was on my feet from 7:30-9. :) How cool is that. We will have 2 games per week through the first week in May. I just wanted to give you an update.

Oh yeah, I have started back eating lunch. I wasn’t eating much at all. Now I am eating lunch and very light for dinner. I know it’s just a matter of finding what works for me and my schedule. I’m curious to know what you are doing and what is working and what is not working. Be blessed and I look forward to hearing from you.

The toughest fight of my life…

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: March 20, 2009

Hey everyone! It’s another week and another challenge! Listen our team has lost a total of 85lbs since we started this, BUT we have been a little stagnant in the weight loss area recently. I am definately included in that number. I have been at the same weight since Feb. 27th. Now something is absolutely not working. Last week, I asked for some feedback and ideas on how to get this weight to falling off and I did get one message from daylilygrl29 to add a few more calories of healthy food. To be honest, i haven’t been eating much AT ALL.

Today I got another email from our newest members (welcome aboard) who are excited about the team. So let’s stay in touch and keep moving. Listen yall, I still have 85lbs. to lose! This has been the toughest fight of my life. Nothing has ever been this hard for me. The question was asked if the team meets so that we can encourage eachother and the answer is no. The reason is that many of us live in different cities. However, I have set up a blog that will allow ALL of us to communicate with eachother about this journey. I really encourage everyone to use it because you may have some things that will work for someone else. I am at my wits end becuase I don’t know what to do. Obviously weight loss is about much more than NOT eating (LOL).

So my husband and I are assistant coaches on my daughter’s softball team. This will give me some activity that I do not currently have in my life. The team plays 2 games a week and we have 15 girls on the team. Today I also signed up to walk the 5k (3 miles) with Brewton-Parker’s team at the Vidalia Onion Festival. What this means is that I have to start walking otherwise I will fall out on the that day. Any body feelin me. Listen my co-workers will be walking too and they are preparing so this has truly motivated me to start walking even if it’s only 10 minutes a day. I sit at a desk all day, very rarely take a lunch break and only get up to use the restroom and go home. So I am making a conscious effort to “get on the move”. I know many of you have tried different things and some work and some dont.

If you have time, take a moment and go to the blog and leave a comment. Introduce yourself to the team. You don’t have to tell your name or location (totally up to you) just tell us about yourself and your goals. Thsi will allow more open communicaton and I believe that although we may never meet; we can still encourage each other. Looking forward to hearing from each of you.

I WILL CONTINUE TO SEND YOU WEEKLY UPDATES AND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. Don’t forget to log your weight loss or weight gain. Hey the Lord delivered them “little by little” and I am believing the same thing for this weight. It will come off “little by little”. Tell your neighber: “little by little”. :) Love you all and look forward to hearing from you.

Trusting God to Do It!!!!

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: March 12, 2009

I pray that all is well with you and your family. I have been getting so many testimonies of young people being sick. One 17 year old had kidney failure, another young man was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. Now more than ever, it is time to trust God. Intercessors we must be on post to pray that the will of God be done in the lives of our youth. Exhorters we must be encouraging the people of God to hold on. No more beating up the people with our harsh, blunt words and say we are doing it in Jesus’ name. NO! It’s time to love and discipline with compassion and use mercy. Where would we be without the mercy and love of the Father. I feel very strongly that we must stay together. My husband was reading the word of God yesterday and came across the scripture that said, “where there is unity, the Lord COMMANDS the blessings.” So if you are looking for blessings in your home, then unite. If you are looking for blessings in your ministry, then unite. NO more selfishness, it’s time to think of others and come together as one so that LORD can COMMAND the blessings! Praise God! When the Father speaks, movement must take place.

I feel like dancing all over the place right now. I am so full of joy. I saw God literally overflow our church last Friday night. People were in the halls, along the walls, in the kitchen, sitting outside on the hoods of cars, on the ground, peeping in the windows HUNGRY for the move of God! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!! These were young people crying out for more of God. I tell you there is a people that is truly wanting ALL that God has to offer. We just have to stay in place and do our part.

Oh how I love you all and I am so grateful for your prayers of the years. I never would have made it this far without you.

Ideas Anyone?

Hello Everyone!  Okay I have a serious question.  I have been at the same weight for 2 weeks.  I am only eating about 1200 calories a day and this weight used to just FALL off.  Since I am still so heavy, is it too early to start really excercising?  What is the proper way to do this so that this weight continues to come off AND stay off. Any suggestions?

Remember I need small practical steps that a mom of 4 active ball players, wife and business woman can do.  Let’s help eachother on this one.  I surely need you.

Please post your responses on my blog so that everyone can read them.  You never know who you may help.

forgot to eat….

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: February 13, 2009

I never thought I would see the day when I would forget to eat, but it happened.  I forgot to eat lunch yesterday.  I had eaten a good breakfast and was working hard.  When I got hungry, it was 3 o’clock.  Well  I didn’t want to eat too much since I would be having dinner around 6.  So I ate an apple.  For dinner I had a  salad from Zaxby.  I know, I know I have to eat in order to lose weight the right way.  It is weird that when I plan to eat, it seems too much.  When I don’t plan to eat, it seems like I can’t get enough.  What I mean is that since I am conscious of my food choices, I am eating healthier, more filling foods and it doesn’t take as much.

Normally I looked forward to lunch.  See I work on a college campus and I am convinced that we have the best campus restaurant in the world.  So I would get up in the mornings anticipating our lunch.  It consists of a buffet.  I would always get the main meal (which is a meat, and a few veggie choices), a slice of pizza and either a salad or a sandwich from the deli bar.  They have 4 choices down there, but for some reason, I felt like I needed to get at least one item off each bar.  I know that is crazy, but it is what I have done every work day for 10 months.

So now, I bring my lunch.  Not only is it saving money, but it will save my life. …

Sweating in the Spirit 2

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: February 12, 2009

I FINALLY DID IT!  I stopped “watching” my workout dvd and actually got up and did it.  Congratulations to me….

Don’t laugh…How many of you have ever bought exercise tapes and sat there and watched them.  Thinking, “I will watch it this time and try it the next time” but the next time never comes.  That has been my story for the last 10 years.  I have Tae Bo, Ab routines, Step Routines and Aerobics.  It wasn’t a waste of money because I watched them all (LOL).  This time it is different though….I said, okay baby (I was talking to my husband) I need you to do something with me.  He was like okay whatever you need.  I said, I need you to do this 10 minute workout with me.  And he jumped right up and moved the table out of the floor in the living room and was ready (in his work uniform and all).  We did the first 10 minute routine.  Now the history is that Minster Williams (my husband) loves to dance.  His dances usually look like they come straight out of the 80′s (the running man, the prep and that kind of stuff) so I thought that he would enjoy Sweating in the Spirit since it is dance.  Guess What?  He did.  I was so tickled watching him try to keep up that I lost track of time and the 10 minute routine was over before I knew it.  I tell you that was a true turning point for me…one that I will never forget.  We did it twice!  So I actually worked out almost 20 minutes.

I believe with everything in me that I will actually lose weight and keep it off this time.  Thank God for my husband and his willingness to help me win this battle.

summary

Posted by: carmelawilliams on: February 11, 2009

Well I have reached my heaviest weight ever and I am very close to 300 now.  I went to the dr. and had the blood work done and found out that I have no excuse for this obesity except laziness.  I was kind of hard moving forward after getting the good news. This was a time of celebration since I don’t have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or thyroid issues.  But instead I felt awful.  Anyway, I decided to take this thing seriously and get to work on my self.

Week 1 went well.  I wasn’t hungry at all and I probably ate less than 3000 calories all week long.  My body collapsed on Saturday.  I was so tired that I couldn’t go any further.  So this week I am revising the plan.  I will eat a good healthy breakfast each morning and a small meal for lunch and dinner and see what happens.  Now my breakfast normally consists of a cup of coffee with 5 teaspoons of sugar.  You heard me right…5, but today I did two teaspoons of sugar and a pack of splenda.  It was alright but it will take some getting used too.  I ate a country breakfast this morning minus the bread and I had a chicken wrap for lunch and drank 50 oz. of water before leaving work.  I don’t feel exhausted …..hummm I may be on to something.  We’ll see.  What has worked for you?  Please share…
